Thank you for the post. Can't tell you how many times I have heard people say that all warriors are "mo-rons". I happen to be an Abrams tank, learned by watching and playing carefully. All the classes take skill to master. I once saw in the chat a Necro (no offense to the Necros reading this) say that all warriors were idiots and then proceed to say that he needed two for a mission. Every class has a place, and played with skill, everyone can kick butt.

Indeed stances/tactics are the lifeblood of a good tank. I was trading with another warrior in droknars, and he said, "Ewww you use stances? They mess up your pure strike!" I just chuckled and moved on.

My favorite skill set (I'm a whammo) is gladiators, 3 wpn skills, breeze, bonettis; then depending on situation 2 out of 4, rebirth, mending, another stance, or mend ailment.

Lead off with gladiators, sever, gash, galrath, breeze, bonetti, rinse and repeat. You don't kill FAST, but you do kill, and against melee opponents you wont die. Period. And you stay healthy enough that the monks aren't constantly healing you.

Last note: Dolyak signet... no knockdowns and +armor with a 20 sec recharge, doesnt cost energy. LOVE that skill for those pesky knockdowners.

Now if I could only figure out a good solo build against those pesky mesmers...

Some criticism... (relating to PVE only)

I've never played a warrior, but I always play softies, so I know what I want from them. When the mobs, coming in two group, backline softies and frontline warriors.

You suggest good warriors go for the healers. If the warrior breaks from the front line to hit the enemies backline, the enemies frontline will likewise break for your teams softies, without fail. The warriors should attack the enemies warriors, if your team cannot kill the other teams healer without your help, it means you probably failed to bring a mesmer.

Also, you suggest the warriors protect the softies by breaking from their current target to go attack the monks target. This is not what should be done. If you're holding aggro on two mobs, and the third mob runs past you into the softies, STAY WHERE YOU ARE. If you come to help, you're going to bring your two friends with you, and then we'll have 3 enemies hitting on us, and trust me, you cannot keep 3 enemies on you when there are so many adjacent soft targets to tempt the enemy. This is the rangers time to shine. The softy who has aggro should simply run a little circle around the nearest ranger, and let the mob beat on him until the other mobs are dead. If there is no ranger, and he thinks he cannot survive the beating, he should run up to the frontline and circle the warriors. MOST of the time this won't steal aggro from the existing mobs, but if it does, the poor caster should stay at the front line until he can lose aggro again, and not run back to the rear.

Unfortunately, most of the time the enemy tanks bypass your frontline to attack your healer. Therefore repaying the gesture is the best thing you can do.

Hm, Gladiator's Defence would be THE best thing for my Mo/W. As soon as I ascend I'll be out of the range of beating up the Bradleys in the Shiverpeak Arena for fun.
I love it when they charge the monk thinking that he's weak and useless. 90% of the time I kick their ass and they turn tail and run, leaving me a wide open shot for critical hits after them for a few steps (because they don't turn tail until they have 30 health left).
I always taunt them when they do this.
"Run from the big scary monk! Hah! You didn't think a holy man could handle a big powerful warrior, did you? Run b*tch!"

They don't bypass your tanks if your backline waits to enter the battle until the enemy has already engaged the tanks.

Also, forgot to point out that warriors rushing the enemies back lines are out of healing range, unless the monk endangers himself. Ideally, the only people focusing on a backline assist should be your ranged dps, rangers, elementalists, and sometimes mesmers.

This is the whole point of Tactics skills - my Warrior doesn't need healing in that inital battle and killing healers takes a matter of seconds at best. Yes, there are certain situations where it may not be beneficial to rush the healers, but on those 5% occasions the smart Abrams players know what to do and adapt. This goes for all professions, because the good players adapt strategies on the fly. If you are lucky enough to get in a group that has even just one excellent tank, then nitpicking the hundreds of things that could deviate from a good battle plan are very rarely ever an issue. He will keep himself alive for the most part and lighten your monk's healing load. I have 4 Ascended characters; Warrior, Elementalist (Bango Skank), Monk, and Ranger. Knowing the way I play each type, I always take into account what the other players would expect me to do in whichever role I am playing at the time.

I can sum up my original thoughts without technicalities on this post by saying simply "Don't play stupid." The fun factor from there takes care of itself!

On an unrelated sidenote, I'd like to mention that noob tanks saying "Help meeee" is frickin' priceless. Last time this happened our monk kept rezzing him using Vengeance so he'd die every 30 seconds.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!!!!!! That is so uber. Think of it: tanks always going on Vengeance! As long as you don't come against enchantment removal, you'd be unstoppable!! *dives into madness*

This post has changed my life, I never even knew the term Tanks existed in PVP for Guild Wars. I mean, the closest thing I know is spirit spam body block.
